Marketing for Independent Artists
Plan honest, sustainable marketing for your art: audience, message, channels, launches, email, collaborations and measuring what works.
About this course
Marketing is how the people who would love your work find out it exists. This course gives independent artists a simple marketing plan: defining who buys or commissions your work, a core message, choosing two or three channels, planning a launch for a collection or project, building an email list, collaborating with other artists and venues, and measuring results. It covers honest advertising in Canada in broad terms (no misleading claims, clear pricing and genuine reviews), using Competition Bureau guidance.
Who it’s for: Artists selling originals, prints, products, commissions or services who want a plan instead of random posting. Some existing work ready to sell or promote.
You will be able to
- Describe your buyers and what motivates them
- Write a core marketing message and three supporting points
- Choose and justify two or three marketing channels
- Plan a launch timeline for a collection or project
- Explain why advertising claims must not be false or misleading and apply this to your copy
Studio project
A marketing plan with buyer profiles, a core message, chosen channels, a six-week launch plan, three launch assets and a results tracker.
