Accessibility Statement

An art school should be open to every artist. This is what we're aiming for, what we've done, and what isn't finished.

Draft — awaiting review before publication

Draft for legal review — not legal advice. This text describes how the school intends to work. It is not a final policy and is hidden from search engines until it has been reviewed.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the public site and the campus. Ontario’s accessibility requirements (AODA) will be reviewed as part of the pre-launch legal checks. We have not yet had an independent audit, so we don’t claim full conformance.

What we've built in

  • Text and interface colours chosen to meet AA contrast in both light and dark appearance.
  • Full keyboard access, visible focus outlines and a “skip to content” link.
  • Semantic headings, landmarks and labelled form controls for screen readers.
  • Animations that switch off when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Layouts designed to reflow at narrow widths and high zoom without horizontal scrolling.
  • Touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels as the standard for primary controls.

Known limitations

  • Video lessons don’t exist yet. Captions and transcripts will be required for every video before it is published.
  • Student-uploaded images depend on students writing alt text; the Portfolio Studio will prompt for it.
  • Some campus features are still being built and haven’t been tested with assistive technology.

Report a barrier

If something on the site is hard or impossible to use, please tell us through the contact form and choose “Accessibility” as the topic, or email rickettsuniversity@gmail.com. Tell us the page and what happened. We’ll reply and, where we can, provide the content another way while we fix it.
