Make short videos about your work: planning for platforms, shooting process footage, editing, timelapses, captions, colour, sound and export, using free or paid editors.

About this course

Short videos of process and finished work are now a common way artists reach audiences. This course covers planning for different platforms and aspect ratios, shooting stable process footage with a phone, recording clean sound, and editing in any editor (DaVinci Resolve's free version is one option). You will learn cutting and pacing, timelapses and speed changes, titles and captions for accessibility, basic colour correction, mixing voice and music, and exporting for each platform. Music must be licensed or royalty-free; the course explains what to check.

Who it’s for: Artists who want to make process videos, studio tours or short documentaries about their work. Basic computer skills; a phone camera is enough.

You will be able to

  • Plan a short video for a specific platform and aspect ratio.
  • Shoot stable, well-lit process footage with clean sound.
  • Edit a sequence with clear pacing, using cuts, timelapse and speed changes.
  • Add accurate captions and titles.
  • Colour-correct, mix audio and export to platform requirements.

Studio project

A captioned 60–90 second process video and a vertical cutdown, exported to platform specifications with properly licensed music.

To complete this course

  • Complete every required lesson.
  • Have the assignment “Process video and cutdown” accepted by an instructor.
  • Records of completion are issued only for courses whose content has passed instructor review.
